DIY Plaid Painted Pumpkin

  • DIY Plaid Painted Pumpkin

Painting pumpkins is really a simple task.  Can you paint a stripe??  I bet you can, and if you can, you can paint plaid.  It is such a classic pattern and immediately gives life to home decor.  Here is how I made an adorable blue + white plaid pumpkin to accessorize my home for fall.

First gather your supplies.  You will need the following:

Faux, White Pumpkin

Paint Brushes

Navy Blue, Acrylic Paint

White, Acrylic Paint

Gold, Acrylic Paint

Pencil with eraser

I painted the stem gold.  Let it dry completely before moving on.

Next,  I used a pencil to create dotted lines for the vertical and horizontal stripes.  This will give a good guide for the paint.

The pencil is a great tool to help define the lines.  If you create uneven lines, just simply erase and adjust.  I repeated this process all over the pumpkin until it looked even.  It does not need to be perfect.  Every piece of art is unique- that’s what makes it special!

After painting all of the lines with the lighter colored paint, allow it to dry completely.  This will only take 10 minutes or so.

Then erase any visible pencil lines.

Last, use the navy blue paint to paint squares over the areas in which the horizontal and vertical lines intersect.  It gives the pumpkin some definition.  The navy helps the pumpkin look bold and clean.

The plaid pumpkin is the perfect accessory to add to any fall vignette.  Want to see a video tutorial of these pumpkins?  Click HERE.  For detailed instructions on how to make the Chinoiserie Pumpkin pictured, click HERE.  To see instructions on how to create the Animal Print Pumpkin, click HERE.  I hope you will be inspired to create some blue + white  fun seasonal decor for your home!
